Fraud attempts are on the rise with stimulus payments and tax refunds hitting accounts. No one wants to be a victim of fraud. Unfortunately, fraudsters are getting better and better at their game. My go-to for staying safe? STAR: Stop, Think, Act, Review.
STOP when you are contacted by someone you do not know; whether by phone, email, text, or even pop-up windows on your PC. Contact someone you trust instead of answering questions or clicking on links.
THINK about the information you are about to share, and what could happen if the information you are sharing fell in the wrong hands! Even something as simple as an email address and phone number can be used by the fraudster to gain more and more information about you from other companies, and once they have enough, they’ve hit their fraud jackpot… at your expense.
ACT when you are suspicious! Block fraudulent numbers. Contact us if you are worried you may have given out information to the wrong people. It is better to be safe than sorry, and don’t ever feel embarrassed or ashamed—fraudsters are good at what they do and anyone can become a victim!
REVIEW what you DO know. Most companies, especially banks, will not call you and ask for personal information over the phone. Also, it is important to be aware of trending fraud schemes, it could save you from becoming a victim!
Do not ever hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns, and stay tuned to our Facebook page as we post bulletins about what’s going on in the world of cybercrime. Our top goal is always to keep you & your money safe, sound & secure!
